Biography

Dr. Aloys Hitabatuma is an Agro-Product Quality and Food Safety Specialist with extensive academic and professional experience in food safety research, nutrition, and agro-processing. He earned a PhD in Agro-Product Quality and Food Safety from the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, where his research focused on developing metal–organic framework (MOF)-based sensing methods for mycotoxin detection. He also holds a Master’s degree in Nutrition and Food Hygiene from Jiangnan University, specializing in food safety analysis and biosensor development, and a Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology from INES Ruhengeri, complemented by an Advanced Diploma in Food Science and Technology from ISAE-Busogo (now University of Rwanda).

Professionally, Dr. Hitabatuma has served as a
nutritionist at Kaduha District Hospital and worked on multiple consultancy projects in Kigali and Musanze, focusing on food waste reduction, management, and capacity building. His expertise bridges scientific research, practical nutrition, food safety analysis, and agro-product quality management, supported by several international publications on food contaminant detection and biosensor technologies.
